• There is something of the madrigal about these simple, stately and entrancing songs by Bristolian and ex-trade union official Tony Harris. The warm bath vocals of Daisy Chapman grace the first five tracks and their commendably original material. We have ‘Irena Sendler’, a (slightly over-wordy) ode to the heroic rescuer of Jewish children in WW2, and ‘Does It Ever Leave Your Mind’, a cautionary tale from abused mother to innocent child. The remaining four tracks are computerized instrumentals showcasing Harris’s potential for the small and silver screens. Economics inevitably means his work doesn’t get the instrumentation it merits – and those synthesized strings do jangle the nerves eventually – but that’s not his fault. Someone give this man a commission, and live musicians, and watch him fly. (Anna Britten)
