‘Legacy’ (LP, self-released) • Formed from Afro-dance outfit Le Cod Afrique, duo TwoManTing’s sound is nearly as big (thanks to guitarist Jon Lewis’s smart looping), while it’s firmly rooted by the vigorous vocals and drumming of Jah-man Aggrey. It’s inevitable that Sierra Leonian Aggrey invokes palm wine godfather SE Rogie and TwoManTing know exactly how to capture that rolling guitar and easy vocal drift, both in their own stuff and in Rogie’s life-affirming ‘African Gospel’. Throughout the record there’s a fine balance between loops and ‘reality’ which gives everything a fresh assurance that’s a joy to hear. Such is the blast of sunshine it emanates, this record might well cure rickets – it certainly brightens up these gloomy winter times a treat. (Tony Benjamin) **** Copyright Tony Benjamin 2011
