• Using bluegrass as a baseline, this is an acoustic project featuring interweaving melodies and counter melodies, little individual showboating, and a band featuring Leon Hunt (banjo), ex-Flook guitarist Ed Boyd, Rex Preston (mandolin), Gina Griffin (violin, vocals) and Josh Clark (percussion), plus assistance from Miranda Sykes (Show of Hands) on double bass. Material ranges from an instrumental version of trad ‘Scarborough Fair’, through the American standard instrumental ‘Hangman’s Reel’, to a lovely version of ‘Angeline’ featuring Gina’s beautiful voice. Several of the band’s original tunes are featured, as is a superb Gina song entitled ‘White Pebbles’. The playing is breathtaking, arrangements sympathetic and original, and the recording quality first-rate. (Tony Slinger)
