Oxygen Thief

‘Destroy It Yourself’ (LP, Broken Tail Records)

Bristol’s Barry Dolan, in-your-face raw and direct, is one man and his furiously scrubbed acoustic guitar, all venomous attack, bug-eyed speed and sheer kinetic energy. ‘Words On Walls’, like a nylon-strung System Of A Down, has lyrics based on the work of Leeds poet Suzannah Evans and boasts a dinky suitcase-sized orchestra, while ‘Disaster Plan/Greater Aberystwyth’ is finely focused rage against cack-handed urban regeneration. The sweet pop chords of ‘All Done Bye Bye’ provide a properly rousing finale of in-the-round voices and handclaps like a punk rock KT Tunstall. (Kid Pensioner)
