The opening track might lead you to believe you were about to experience 30-odd minutes of post-rock aural bubblebath, but follow-up ‘Cold Shoulder’ proves to be a disappointingly standard indie tune, with a hint of Stereophonics about it. Thankfully, things quickly pick up, with the next few songs showcasing a great drum sound and the sort of intelligent guitar placement that Bloc Party do so well. Singer Richie isn’t the most tuneful of frontmen, but when the songs are this catchy, the lack of polish is a good thing.
