• David Britton is a gent from Bristol’s eastern outback, possessed of a warm baritone, an electronic organ and a narrative voice dripping with humanity and good humour. That this is different from what we usually find in our postbag is beyond doubt. The archly ironic ‘Cameron Clegg’ takes on the new politics in the style of Gilbert & Sullivan, while the bawdily romantic ‘Courting Sarah May’ could be Laurie Lee set to an English folk melody. The synthesised string and organ sounds don't do them any favours, but the arrangements are strong, and the brace of Afghan war songs genuinely moving. Politicians beware: when our church hall pianists and light opera societies start getting angry, it’s time to think again. (Adam Burrows)
