Get-fit training sessions
first launched in London's major parks in 1999, staged on Bristol's Clifton Downs for around a year. Offering a fun-but-tough programme designed to get the heart pumping and run in teams according to competitors' fitness levels. One chap lost four stones in four months.

Admirably self-explanatory and rightly popular initiative encouraging women to run en route to a lifetime of feeling terrific and looking even better. Courses start throughout the year and are staged at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre's Recreation Ground. Girls aged 13-16 have to be accompanied by an adult. The absence of chaps makes for a non-competitive, supportive atmosphere conducive to reaching fitness goals. You go, girl!

Walking The Way to Health

Walking groups make this easy and inexpensive get fit method even more enjoyable. The Weekly Wednesday Walk sets off from central Bristol's Cascade Steps every Wednesday at 12.30pm. The walk lasts 30 minutes, is free, open to anyone (just turn up and walk) and routes change weekly. Other walking groups are based in St Pauls and Easton, Bedminster and Southville, Hillfields, Henbury, Knowle West, Hartcliffe and Withywood and Lawrence Weston. Walks range from under one mile to four miles in length.
