MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

What: A newbie which, when it debuted last year, entertained over 200k punters and saw critics declare it a rival to Edinburgh’s crown. Devoted to world premieres, 2007 was dominated by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlitt’s Chinese circus opera ‘Monkey: Journey To The West’. What: Only eight years old, but the Frome Festival is now so much a part of the local calendar it’s impossible to imagine fabulous Frome without it. What: Postponed last year due to torrential rain, the admirable Truck started, quite literally, on the back of a farm truck in 1997 and is one of the fastest-growing festivals for yer earnest young muso.
