Treat yourself to the magnificent ‘Thornbury Castle Regal Experience’: check in to the Duke’s Bedchamber (where King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn stayed in 1535), and enjoy a six-course Royal Gala Dinner, seated on ‘thrones’ at your private table on the Gallery. The scroll features authentic dishes from the Tudor period: recipes from Hampton Court during Henry’s reign, created by Thornbury’s passionate, award-winning head chef Lee Heptinstall.

Lee also offers you modern, internationally inspired dishes and traditional favourites including succulent Sunday roasts with all the trimmings. The classic cheese trolley features some of the best British and continental cheeses, and all dishes use the finest, freshest ingredients, sourced from local markets and suppliers wherever possible. They grow their own herbs on the estate, as well as vegetables such as courgette flowers and cherry tomatoes.

Restaurant manager Marco Mellace has compiled a comprehensive wine list which has won the Wine Spectator’s Award for Excellence, honouring Thornbury for having one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world. The list also, of course, features Thornbury Castle wine, made from the müller thurgau grape grown in the castle’s own vineyard.
