Stag & Hounds
74 Old Market St , Bristol BS2 0EJ
Tel 0117 929 1407
At the start of Old Market and the end of Castle Green, the Stag & Hounds stands out from the modern buildings surrounding it. To go hand in hand with its centuries of history and all those lovely period features (including an original pump well from when the building was a brewery), there are many stories and ghostly sightings that have been reported in the pub.
Inside the Stag & Hounds you’ll find modern furniture and a comfortable environment, whether you’re looking for a quick snack during your lunch-hour or a relaxing afternoon. There’s a good range of both standard and continental lagers on draught, a selection of ciders and three real ales, as well as a selection of wine and soft drinks.
The menu consists of all the traditional dishes you would expect from a pub menu, from chilli and rice to ham, egg and chips, and also features a homecooked Sunday roast. If you’re in a rush, there’s a great selection of paninis and snacks on offer. For those who don’t drink or are driving, there’s also a full range of teas and coffees available.
During the summer there’s plenty of outside space, with seating to the side of the pub as well as a roof terrace. The old courtroom is available for hire for private functions, and catering options can be discussed to meet your needs.
The Stag & Hounds aims to provide a comfortable and relaxed environment, open to all, not to mention an intriguing little bit of history, right in the city centre.
