Since Moles took over The Porter in 1994, it’s gradually been transformed from a rather dour, traditional pub into a pre-club meeting place and watering hole par excellence. A decade or so later, while still being an excellent place to meet friends pre-Moles, The Porter has established a complete identity of its own. Upstairs, as well as the friendly and lively main bar, which features a cool sound system, there’s been the addition of a quieter room, away from the general hubbub, for those who just want to chat to friends.

The wide range of bottled beers, premium draught lagers and interesting selections on the spirit shelves remain as attractive as ever. The competitively priced and varied vegetarian menu is now available all day, making this one of the few pubs in Bath where you can get a decent meal up until 9pm. You’ll find hot, wholesome vegetarian main meals, including a roast dinner every Sunday, plus all-day breakfasts, sandwiches and toasties, baked potatoes, nachos, crepes and homemade soups.

The Porter Cellar Bar downstairs has rapidly gained a reputation as a venue in its own right, with free live music from Monday to Thursday and DJs playing on Fridays and Saturdays. It also hosts the much-respected comedy club The Comedy Cavern every Sunday. On the other nights of the week, a selection of ambient and cool dance sounds provides the backdrop to animated conversations on the meaning of life and other such drolleries!
