Bath’s only vegetarian restaurant

Rachel Demuth started Demuths restaurant 22 years ago and new head chef Richard Buckley is now at the helm, creating light, fresh vegetarian food. Demuths won the Vegan Restaurant of the Year 2009, the Gourmet Britain Award for Best Vegetarian Restaurant 2010 and is recommended by Hardens.

Only 200m from Bath Abbey, Bath’s only vegetarian restaurant is best known for its exciting ‘world menu’. Its individual style of flavours, colours and textures has earned this busy little restaurant a strong following. Open every day for a late breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, its menus change monthly with the seasons.

As well as the excellent vegetarian menu, there are plenty of vegan, wheat-free dishes and gluten-free options. Vegetables, breads and cheeses are sourced from local suppliers and as much as possible is organic and Fairtrade. Demuths serves excellent organic juices, lassis and shakes. Its coffees and teas, as well as its entire wine, beer and spirit list, are organic too.

For breakfast, try the Demuths bumper big breakfast or for lunch the Quick Bites menu (£10.50). Or go for the great value Early Bird Dinner (two courses, 5.30-6.30pm Sun-Thur, £14.50). Dinner could be baked hazelnut gnocchi with roasted butternut squash, oyster mushrooms, wilted calvo nero, cider cream and thyme pesto, followed by warm pear & chocolate tart or the famous sticky toffee pudding.
