The style of food at the Cavendish is modern British, the emphasis being on seasonal menus using local organic and free-range produce. Head chef Fran Snell and his team create beautifully presented dishes with a perfect balance of flavours and texture.

The quality of ingredients and the chefs’ skills excel in the dinner menus. A tempting starter from the current menu is hand-dived scallops with cauliflower tempura, cauliflower puree and truffle honey. This could be followed by fillet of Cherry Orchard Farm beef, cep puree, fondant potato, roasted roots and onions. All the menus have a vegetarian choice and the menu currently includes the flavoursome combination of tortellini of squash, baby spinach and parmesan with wild mushroom fricassee and sage foam. And to finish? What could be more irresistible than dark chocolate pudding, malted milk ice-cream and white chocolate mousse, or the exotic lemon trifle, burnt passionfruit cream and blood orange sorbet?

The lunchtime menu includes favourite dishes such as cod and dill fishcake and rib-eye steak with mustard mash, which, at £12.95 for two courses and £15.95 for three, is excellent value. Sunday lunch includes a traditional roast. And with the arrival of summer, you can eat alfresco in the pretty and secluded patio garden, and choose from the appetising Terrace Menu, a selection of individually priced dishes ranging from £5.95 to £10.95.
