A breath of French air
in the heart of Bath
Take Bath’s top cocktail bar and combine it with the city’s top French chef and you get the recently launched 1453 Cocktail Bar and Grill.
Formerly the Beaubar in Monmouth Street, round the back of the Theatre Royal, 1453 - so named to commemorate the end of the 100-year war between England and France - is the result of a collaboration between Christophe Lacroix and Kevin Walters.
Even the menu reflects the bar’s origins, with French specialities like snails auvergniate sitting firmly alongside British favourites such as steak and chips. Or perhaps you’d prefer grilled scallops with pistachio butter or rabbit dolmis with pears and thyme jus.
The bar also boasts the biggest cocktail list in town, with premium spirits, authentic recipes and, of course, that je ne sais quoi.
The bar has long been a favourite with locals in Bath, but the refurbishment and the reintroduction of food has brought in a whole new clientele, including pre- and post-theatre diners. Food is served in the evenings from 6pm until late, at lunchtimes from Tuesday to Friday between 12noon and 2.30pm, and all day on Saturday.
You will struggle to find better food, or a better atmosphere and you will be well advised to book in advance on Bath 01225 444770.
