Tuck in!
Welcome to Eating Out West: Venue Magazine’s annual food and drink guide that offers so much more than an address book telling you where to go when you’re in need of a nibble. Celebrating its 21st birthday this year with a brand new, updated format, EOW 2009 is the definitive food guide for the south west, compiled and written by a team of fastidious foodies on a mission to share our facts, finds and opinions with like minded people who we trust will put all our hard work to really good use.
There have been many changes to our personal, local and cultural environments over the past year, let alone the 21 we’re raising our glasses to. In 2008, Bristol’s Cabot Circus came to town, bringing with it a wealth of tasty opportunities from all corners of the globe. Meanwhile, Bath turned into celebrity chef central and the Michelin man was generous with his stardust across the whole region. And while it has to be acknowledged that we’re currently living in a challenging economy, the local chefs, restaurateurs, entrepreneurs and producers featured on these pages prove that optimism continues to thrive in a lush province that has deservedly built a solid, global reputation for the outstanding quality of our local produce and the talent and imagination of those who work so hard to bring it to our tables.
This issue of Eating Out West is dedicated to the memory of Venue Magazine’s legendary food and drink editor Marc Crewe, who died last December: a much loved and sorely missed colleague and friend.
