Chic eatery where sourcing and seasonality aren’t just hollow promises

River Cottage have teamed up with their friends at Komedia to offer a wonderful Bath Canteen in the lovely Beau Nash building in Westgate Street. The Canteen showcases the very best of the South West and what’s in season, with Simon, Tom and the team striving to deliver a fantastic culinary experience. “As you’d expect, the fundamental RCC principles regarding seasonality and impeccable sourcing are taken very seriously here,” said one critic. “But in the days when ‘mission statements’ that declare similar policies are as common as the discarded Greggs the Baker bags that clutter up the gutters, all too few claims live up to the promise. There’s no such disillusion behind what’s often an illusion at the River Cottage Canteen, though. We left feeling as though we’d eaten exactly what should be on the menu right now, created moments before we took our table and leaving us so sated that dinner that evening was just not an option.”

Start the day with the famous River Cottage Farmhouse Breakfast with fresh Rainforest Alliance coffee. Lunch brings any number of freshly cooked dishes, while the a la carte evening menu changes daily. A stunning range of wickedly delicious cakes and cream teas includes Cornwall-grown brews. They bake their own breads, savouries, cakes and treats, with an in-house bakery (Wed-Sat 9am-3pm) where you can watch resident baker Clive working the dough.
